In August 2026, Deman Power supplied two 600kW diesel generator sets to a copper processing project in the Arequipa Region of Peru.
Arequipa is one of Peru’s important mining regions. Copper mining in the area includes large operations with concentrators and supporting infrastructure. For example, Cerro Verde operates concentrator facilities for copper and molybdenum processing, while projects such as Zafranal also include a dedicated concentrator and supporting water and power infrastructure.
For this project, the two 600kW diesel generator sets are used as backup power rather than the main source of electricity. The generators are intended to support selected critical loads, such as water pumps, auxiliary equipment, lighting and control systems, when the normal power supply is unavailable.
The equipment uses Weichai engines and a silent enclosure, making the Weichai generator sets suitable for an industrial mining environment. With two units, the customer can arrange the backup power capacity according to the actual loads that need to remain available during a power interruption.
For copper mining and processing operations, this type of standby arrangement provides a practical way to protect essential auxiliary systems without trying to replace the plant’s normal grid supply. The two Weichai generator sets therefore serve as an additional power source for the site's critical equipment.
